Group fights over anti-corruption law

Anna Hazare’s fast in April led to the Government agreeing to change the law that punishes corrupt people in India. The Government then set up a group consisting of Hazare and his supporters as well as Government officials who were together supposed to create a new law.

But now there are big fights taking place between the two groups over some important issues.

Hazare and his team want the new law to have power over the Prime Minister and Chief Justice of India (the most important Judge in India). But the Government does not want this as they feel that the law would be used to make trivial (opposite of serious) complaints against the Prime Minister and Chief Justice which would be a waste of time.

Unless these issues are settled, it will be difficult for the group to agree on the new law.
