“With Uncle Ken you had always to expect the unexpected” goes the first line of one of Ruskin Bond’s stories about his quirky Uncle Ken. What else could one say about an uncle who puts a nephew (in this case Bond) on the wrong train, manages to get his car smashed by four elephants and get stung by wasps when on a butterfly walk.
Uncle Ken was Ruskin Bond’s maternal uncle and he spent several weeks with him each year when visiting his grandmother at Dehradun. Bond’s adventures with Uncle Ken, which invariably end with mishaps (accidents) of some kind, make for delightful reading and are very funny.
The book is a series of small chapters written in Bond’s easy, readable style. Perfect for the Ruskin Bond fan or a reader just beginning to sample this writer’s world.
